What is an Ink Jet Printer
Inkjet printing is a sort of computer printing that uses droplets of ink to replicate a digital image on paper or plastic substrates. Inkjet printers are the most prevalent form of printer, and they range from low-cost consumer models to high-end professional equipment.
Tiny resistors in a thermal inkjet printer generate heat, which vaporizes ink to form a bubble. Some of the ink is pushed out of a nozzle onto the paper as the bubble swells. A vacuum is generated when the bubble "pops" (collapses). This draws additional ink from the cartridge into the print head.
Inkjet printers were a natural progression from dot-matrix printers. Instead of metal needles, they fire ink dots at the paper with hundreds of tiny cannons. The characters they generate are still made up of dots, exactly like in a dot-matrix printer, but the dots are so small that they are invisible.
Color laser printers usually only have 4 ink cartridges for cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Although various colors can be synthesized, the color transition is rigid and lacks a sense of hierarchy. Inkjet printers usually have six ink cartridges: black, magenta, light red, cyan, light cyan, and yellow. Therefore, inkjet printers print bright colors, rich layers, and natural color transitions.

In this article, I will be sharing 7 InkJet Advantages and Disadvantages.
Advantages of InkJet Printer
- Better Quality Output.
Inkjet printers use 4 types of inks Which can be blended into different vivid colors. It provides high-quality output. It is usually recommended for high-quality photos due to the pigmented ink. Inkjet printers usually have six ink cartridges: black, magenta, light red, cyan, light cyan, and yellow.
- Low Initial Cost.
Inkjet printers are sold cheaply which helps people to afford them. The print cost per page is very affordable for a middle-class person. Customers usually prefer inkjet printers due to less per print cost and high-quality output. Printers like HP Deskjet 2723 are very cheap to buy from the market. Inkjet printers are more suitable for a home or small business setup. Inkjet printers print photos better than laserjet printers
- Lightweight and Low Maintainance.
Modern Inkjet printers are lightweight - which is perfect for home usage. But if you print mostly text, a laser printer would be more suitable for you in saving money. Inkjet printers are low-maintenance devices, whereas laserjet printers require extra care and caution.
- Works Silently
The printers are extremely quiet while in operations. Even quieter than dot matrix printers. Therefore, there are no effects on business productivity.
- Start-Up Time
Different from a laser printer, an inkjet printer does not require time to heat the machine system before print. They have also a shorter delay between the document being sent to print and the beginning of a print process.
- High Resolution
The print resolution of an inkjet printer is very high. that is why it is popular for printing photos as well. We get 1440dpi resolution from an inkjet printer for photo outputs as well.
Disadvantages of InkJet Printer
- Expensive Ink
Inks are usually very expensive. A middle-class person with an inkjet printer can not afford it. Even though the initial cost to buy an inkjet printer is low, the ink cartridges cost a lot more than the toner cartridges. In some cases, the cost of the ink cartridge is almost close to the price of the basic printer.
- Combined Ink Cartridge
You may have to change the whole cartridge. if one ink gets over in an inkjet printer..This is one of the worst disadvantages.
- Bleeding Effect
This effect is known to occur in inkjet printers where the ink on the paper gets sprayed irregularly. Inkjet printers use liquid ink to print a document. Hence, sometimes the edges of the words printed are smudged. The quality of the document printed is sometimes compromised.
- Slow Speed
Inkjet printers are not made for bulk printing. The printers can not print at high speed. It usually gets struck while printing large documents. Quality and speed are always a pair of contradictions that are difficult to reconcile. The higher the precision required, the more dots need to be printed, and the slower the printing speed. Although increasing the number of nozzles can increase the printing speed in an inkjet printer.
- Use and Throw Type
Cheap inkjet printers are use and throw type. They can not be used again. it is always suggested to buy good quality inkjet printers of well-known brands available in the market.
- Clogging
While using an inkjet printer you have to print one page every two or three days so that the printhead nozzles don't get blocked/clogged. You also have to ensure the print head is calibrated every time you adjust the print head or use a new kind of paper.
